Zone 0 questions homeowners ask
Who must follow the Zone 0 rules in La Canada Flintridge?
Owners of parcels in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, which covers much of La Canada Flintridge's foothill area under the 2025 CAL FIRE maps. The contractor confirms your parcel's zone status during the free assessment.
What is the 0-5 foot zone?
Zone Zero is the first 5 feet around your home. Under AB 3074 it must be kept free of combustible material: mulch, dead vegetation, stored items, and wood fencing attached to the house.
What do I need to change?
Phase 1 clears combustible material from the zone. Phase 2 replaces built items like wood fences and gates on the schedule the Los Angeles County Fire Department sets. The assessment maps both phases to your specific property.
When are the deadlines?
Final regulations are expected late 2026. Phase 1 for existing homes lands around 2027 to 2028, and Phase 2 follows on LA County's schedule, up to 5 years after adoption. The full table is on our deadlines page.
